Project Description

The operating principle of battery charge indicator: indicator reads the voltage of battery and judges the battery charge state by the relation of battery’s voltage VS charge state. For lead acid battery, indicator show battery charge state accurately because lead acid battery’s voltage and charge state are proportional.

LiFePO4 battery’s charge state is not changed in most voltage and changed sharply in low end and high end of voltage, so indicator can’t judge charge state by voltage.

Solution 1: Indicator with CANbus. LiFePO4 battery pack is integrated with BMS which stores the data on charge state percentage, voltage and temperature etc. Indicator can read charge state from BMS via CANbus communication.

Solution 2: Coulombmeter. Coulombmeter monitors the electric quantity which go from battery to coulombmeter, and calculate battery’s current in the dedicated timeframe, then calculate out battery’s charge state percentage.

Recommend indicator with CANbus because it is easier than Coulombmeter in hardware wire connection and software setting.
